DOUBLE-BASS INVENTORY

There always is a large selection of double-basses for sale and in all price ranges at my workshop. In addition to offering excellent quality older instruments that have withstood the rigors of time and playing, I also offer a limited number of new instruments from select workshops and makers. I have had a working relationship with these importers and their workshops for several years and I am confident in the long term stability and tonal qualities of these double-basses.

All instruments offered for sale at my workshop have been properly repaired and restored, adjusted and set-up with well-fitted sound posts and bridges, proper string heights, bridge arching and bridge thickness, and properly adjusted top-nuts along with dressed fingerboards. I personally assure all perspective buyers that every double-bass has been carefully examined and is in top working order.

CONCORD INTERNATIONAL GROUP “CHRISTOPHER WORKSHOP” INSTRUMENTS

Concord International Group is the long-time maker and importer of the well-known “Christopher Workshop” instruments, made at their workshop in Beijing, China. Founded in 1987, they have made a significant investment over the years in quality woods, aged in a controlled environment. While their workshop is in metro Beijing, China, their main office is located in Elgin, Illinois, a one hour drive from Chicago. Due to their proximity, I am able to visit their warehouse to play on instruments prior to purchasing them to offer for sale in my Chicago workshop. I have known this company and done business with them for over 20 years and believe they offer the best over-all value in all categories of new, hand-made instruments, from an affordable entry-level instrument to a professional-level travel-bass or 7/8 size copy of an old Italian master instrument. ERIC SWANSON DOUBLE-BASS BOWS

I am very pleased to offer handmade double-bass bows by Eric Swanson, the foremost bow maker in Chicago. Eric is an expert in bow-making, bow repair and restoration and high quality same-day rehairs, and now has also taken time to make bows for the double-bass. The making of a double-bass bow is a physically intensive and time consuming process, thus limiting the number of bows he is able to produce. For ease of international travel—due to elephant ivory travel restrictions—these bows all have head-plates made of alternative materials in place of traditional ivory, while maintaining the traditional function and aesthetic. For more information about purchase or commission of an Eric Swanson bass bow in French or German style, please contact me.
